High Desert Test Sites / A-Z West
While living in the A-Z Yard Yacht during her work-trade residency, Danielle Yukari was surrounded by rock formations that inspired her to investigate patterns of repetition from the desert landscape. She looked up to the stars at night and down to the land during the day to explore concepts of homeland, belonging, minimal and sustainable ways of living with functional practices that surround us.
Yukari created pleated clay sculptures and pocket-size objects using the Kurinuki technique, which involves carving out a solid block of clay to make vessels.
Kurinuki series of work here.
